Joomla is one of the most popular and most powerful content management systems available for webmasters. And the best thing about the software is that it is absolutely free…

After you have signed up with a web hosting provider who uses Joomla as their site builder of choice, you will notice that the templates provided are very generic looking. No fret. You can easily change your Joomla template so that your website has a look and feel that is uniquely you.

  • Browse the internet to find a Joomla template you would like to use. Some of the templates are free. Some of the templates will cost you about $25.00 to $50.00. The “Joomla 24″ website offers a few thousand templates for free. “Template Monster” and “Joomla Jet” offer a mixture of free and fee-based templates.

  • Download the Joomla Template onto your computer’s hard drive or USB flash drive.
  • Log into your Joomla “Control Panel.” Generally this will be done by typing in your domain name, followed by the word “Administrator.” For example, http://www.yourdomainname.com/administrator
  • Click on the “Extensions” option that is located on the top menu bar of the control panel.
  • Select “Install/Uninstall.”
  • Locate the option to “Upload Package File.” Click the “Browse” button to find the Joomla template that you downloaded onto your computer. Select the option to “Upload File & Install.” Your template will now be installed into your Content Management database.
  • Click on “Extensions” again from the top menu bar. Select “Template Manager.” Click on the small button that is beside your new template to select it. Click on the “Default” icon located on the top right hand side of your window. This will activate your new template as the default template for your website. Your new template is now viewable when you enter your domain name for your site.
